Back on the Trail :)

A good running week, specially with all the misgivings I had about ever getting back. Sometime last week I decided that it was either taking the pain or quitting. I chose the pain, and Im happy to report that strangely the pain seems to have taken care of itself. Not that its gone away, but I can pretty much keep my old pace without too much discomfort.
This week I did
Tue: 4 miles at 7:45 Treadmill
Wed: 7 miles at 7:45 Treadmill
Thurs: 6 miles at 7:45 Treadmill
Sat: 10 miles on the lakes - met Dy and Greg and ran a half loop with them. Met Forrest too. The run seemed to get better as it went on. AND NO PAIN just a little niggle at the end
Sun: 6.8 (Calhoun and Harriet) at nearly 7:20 pace. My mentee really pushed me. We finished with about a 150 yard sprint. Felt really good.
Now it remains to be seen how my knee feels. My guess is that its gonna get no worse.
We plan a 5 K next weekend and a half marathon the week after.

The waits killing me. When will I be able to run again ? I was out at volunteering at the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon yesterday. Those are the real athletes. To swim bike and then run thats gotta kill you.
But my posts are gonna get shorter till I can run again. Dunno when that will be

No running yet - We all hurt

The pains gone but still comes back when I run or go down stairs. Damn I hoped to be running this week. Looks like I will have to wait another week. In the worst case I will have to run the Gopher to Badger half marathon on about 2 weeks of training. If its less than that Im gonna have to miss that and that would effectively end any Twin Cities Marathon hope I may have.
My mentees in pain too. His back seems to have gotten worse. So its gonna be a race against time to see if we get ready

Recovery

Its always so damn slow to recover from an injury. I guess I just have to be patient. Started lifting weights today. Light Squats, curls and extensions. I aim to start a light run next weekend if I can go a day without the knee stiffening up. Right now thats the only discomfort.

ITBS

Started of well only to come to a grinding halt. Damn ITBS flare up. Now ITBS is iliotibial band syndrome. Its a classical overuse injury seen in runners. I had a bout last year in the Twin Cities Marathon and I thought I had recovered well enough - ah but no my friend, its the other knee this time, my right. Well its good that it happened after Grandmas.
Anyways this means 2 -3 weeks of frustrating waiting to get back on the road. Gonna work on my leg strength and ITB stretching. Found a bunch of great sites on ITBS heres a few

Hate to show that im a quitter to my mentee but had no choice on this one. I guess he will learn that sometimes its better to be a quitter than to be a fool. BUT I WILL BE BACK
Watchin Live 8 now, its a nice idea I hope they are successful
